Culinary Arts Instructor
The Somerset Career & Technical Center is seeking a passionate, experienced, and student-focused Culinary Arts Instructor to lead our high school CTE Culinary Arts program. This is a full-time position for the 2025-2026 school year.
Position Summary
The Culinary Arts Instructor will be responsible for delivering hands-on, industry-relevant instruction in culinary fundamentals, food safety, commercial kitchen operations, hospitality, and career readiness. The instructor will engage students in real-world learning experiences that prepare them for entry-level careers in the culinary industry or post-secondary culinary education.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging curriculum aligned with Maine CTE standards and industry certifications (e.g., ServSafe).
- Instruct students in safe and effective food preparation, baking, knife skills, nutrition, and kitchen management.
- Supervise students in a commercial-style kitchen environment.
- Incorporate employability skills, teamwork, and professionalism into daily instruction.
- Collaborate with local industry partners and post-secondary institutions to provide meaningful student experiences.
- Maintain required records, including student assessments, safety certifications, and program documentation.
- Participate in CTE advisory committees and professional development.
- Support students in SkillsUSA or other career/technical student organizations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of industry experience in culinary arts, restaurant management, or hospitality required.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in culinary arts or a related field preferred.
- ServSafe Manager Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Eligible for (or ability to obtain) Maine CTE teacher certification in Culinary Arts (828).
- Previous teaching or training experience a plus, but not required.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
